Public sector leaders and experts responsible for strengthening their countries’ entrepreneurship ecosystems will roll up their sleeves this November and engage in a bit of hacking. The Startup Nations Summit will bring startup savvy policy shapers from more than 60 countries to Tallinn, Estonia, to explore cutting-edge government programs and regulatory practices aimed at increasing new firm formation.

A core element of the summit is the SNS Policy Hack. Participants – grouped into teams and supported by mentors – examine challenges from their home countries and work through a facilitated process to develop and validate proposed solutions.

While in Bangkok, Thailand, for the Startup Thailand event, Jonathan Ortmans of the Global Entrepreneurship Network discussed the benefits of the policy hack with Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, the Minister of Digital Economy and Society in Thailand – and a registered delegate for the Startup Nations Summit in Tallinn.

“We know that a lot of things are being disrupted in a positive sense. The disruption means we are encountering the age of innovation and creativity,” said Durongkaveroj. “From a government point of view… sometimes innovation has to be balanced with existing – sometimes outdated – regulation.”

Selected “team leaders” who present specific policy ideas will be supported by 4-5 expert team members and a mentor to help them shape and validate solutions to their challenge.

The Startup Nations Summit is hosted by the Global Entrepreneurship Network and Estonia’s Presidency of the EU Council. It is supported by the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, European Commission, Startup Estonia, EIT Digital, Dell and the Kauffman Foundation.

Applications are being accepted for registered delegates interested in participating in the SNS Policy Hack. See additional details and RSVP at
